Pool Infections
Eye infections can be caught from pool water. The risk is high in pools that are not well chlorinated and where bacterial counts are not done at the required intervals.

Eye infections called “conjunctivitis” cause the following signs and symptoms:
- Redness
- Sticky discharge
- Stinging
- Swelling of the eyelids
These infections are treated with antibiotic drops and ointments. The complaints can last about 1 week to 10 days. These infections usually heal without leaving any trace in the eye, but rarely the cornea, the clear layer of the eye, can also be affected, and then the consequences can be more serious.
To protect yourself from these infections, make sure you swim in a pool where water samples are taken regularly.
Have your eyes assessed
Send your prescription history, previous eye reports and any corneal imaging for an individual assessment — in person in İstanbul or over video.
