After the age of forty, difficulty seeing near — “presbyopia” — can be corrected with laser. This procedure is called presby-LASIK (Global Optimum LASIK). For now it is used mainly in people with hyperopia.

In hyperopic patients, standard LASIK is performed on one eye and Global Optimum LASIK on the other. The eye treated with Global Optimum LASIK is made myopic so that it can see near — but, of course, this eye that has been made myopic does not see distant objects clearly.

To find out whether such a treatment will make you happy, a trial lens is placed in your non-dominant eye before the procedure. This trial lens with a prescription shows you how the eye made myopic by the laser will see. Global Optimum LASIK is performed only on people who have tried this myopia simulation with a trial lens and are happy with it.
